Dear Parents / Carers.
On this page you will find the materials that are being used in the lessons for Relationships Education for Year 6.
In Year 5 your child will have had lessons on puberty, physical changes, personal hygiene and emotions and feelings. In Year 6, children will recap some of what they learnt. The learning content comes under Health Education, this is not sex education so parents cannot withdraw their child from these lessons.
As a school we have decided to offer Year 6 children Sex Education, which is human reproduction and how a baby is made. This is optional, and you can withdraw your child from lesson 5 only by filling in the form attached to this letter.

We understand that this can be an uncomfortable time for you as a parent, but please be assured that this will be handled sensitively in line with the school Relationships and Sex Education policy which can be found on the school website page here. If pupils are kept ignorant of their human and physical changes they are not being adequately safeguarded and may hear rumours from peers which can make them fearful and anxious.
